3D Printing

Slicing

After the 3D model (STL file) is finished it is cut into printable parts and imported in the slice software. The slicing software is used to feed all important print parameters to the printer to be able to successfully print the parts.

Using r-PetG a typical print temperature of 230 Degrees C is used. The soul surfer windsurf board is typically printed in 2 colors resulting in two independent prints of roughly 16 hours each.

Design

This is where it all starts. What design is required. Soul Surfer boards are designed in Shape3D and hence it is possible to create any design feasible. The aim is to create custom made boards all to the wishes of the customer.

-Shape, Color, Logo's all to be decided together.

Once the Shape3D design is finished it is then post processed and translated to a printable 3D model.

Printing

The Modix big 120Z 3d printer has a heated print bed and a print volume of 600x600x1200 mm.

The different rail parts for the Soul Surfer boards are printed vertically layer by layer which results in a relative smooth surface finish which requires minimal sanding.

All items required for the boards are printed in-house

  1. Nose

  2. Tail

  3. Foot strap plugs

  4. Mast rail

  5. Fin box

This results in the unique possibility to choose for any color the customer wants..
